iRobot Roomba

Irobot RoombaWhen you have two big Labradors that love to roll around and dig in the dirt.  As well as a cat, and on top of that it’s summer time which means more shedding then usual from all three.  You find yourself sweeping your flooring a few times a day.  We have a large area to sweep on the lower level of our home so it can be rather irritating, or at least for me.  A month or so back, I mentioned getting a new Roomba.  We had an old one but it couldn’t keep up with all the hair and dirt in the house.   On Sunday we saw that Costco had one that seemed really nice.  I took a quick nap and woke up to Terry saying that we should get it.  The next day I was at Costco picking one up.   Now the one we got is exclusive to Costco, however if you don’t have a Costco membership and want to buy a similar one this is the closest one that we believe you can get.  However, everywhere else wants about $100 more then Costco does.  They also don’t seem to come with the extra battery life, filters and vacuum bags.

It has many features however my favs are listed below

  • Empties on Its Own – You Don’t Have to Think About Vacuuming for Months at a Time
  • Imprint Smart Mapping Enables the Robot to Learn, Map and Adapt to Your Entire Home
  • Clean and Schedule by Room Using Google Voice Assistant or the iRobot App
  • Keep Out Zones Let You Control Areas that You Want the Robot to Avoid

We have it scheduled to clean every night shortly after midnight.  If we are go outside to spend time on the patio or go out shopping, I will have it clean the TV area of our living room and the kitchen.  As these are the most used rooms of the house.  We haven’t used it on carpet, so I can’t say how great it does but I do know that it will work on carpet.  I am surprised of how well it works on our slate flooring in the kitchen with all the grooves it has.  I will say that after almost a week of using it we are loving it.  I have no complaints about this useful device, in my opinion it was well worth it.  If you do buy a Roomba or similar robot vacuum and have dogs, I do highly recommend getting one that is self emptying.  The robot itself doesn’t hold a lot, and you will have to empty it probably everyday.

After we set it all up, I wanted to do a test run to see how the dogs would handle it.  Here is a video of their reaction.  They have since calmed down.

  1. Ha the dogs 😁
I wonder how or if they could navigate a thick carpet from a wooden floor.
