I had a fellow blogger ask me, “You love you some music don’t you?”
The answer is yes, and I mean I really LOVE it. Until recently, I thought everyone felt the same way. For some unfortunately it’s just sound.
I found this quote a while ago and it’s so fitting for me.
“The only love affair I have ever had was with music.” – Maurice Ravel
Saying that I love music is kind of funny to me because I didn’t always have this love. When I first was adopted (1979-80), my Mom would always play music and It was loud too. Apparently I would complain asking if she always had to play it and why so loud. Well I learned from the best because not to long after that I was in love. Music now brings me closer to her, I often feel her presence with me when I play our favorites.
The best way to explain my love for music is this. When I hear my favorite music, it often gives me the feeling that most people associate with when they are falling in love. I know it sounds weird, but it’s the best way to describe it. I get goosebumps when certain notes are played, it can lift my spirits when I am feeling down. I have had moments In my past where I got down and depressed. After a few minutes, I realized that I haven’t listened to music in a few days. Music is then turned on ASAP.
Not only do I love hearing music, I love to play it. I have my keyboards and my bass (that I’m working on learning to play). I am a self taught musician. Although over the years I have become very shy when it comes to playing. I will sometimes just sit at the keys and see what my hands will come up with. In high school while I was in choir, I would sometimes play the piano during our show’s and I once even performed an original song I wrote. A classmate wrote lyrics to it and we performed it together at our awards ceremony. In middle school I went to a performing arts school (my wife always says I went to “Fame”. Some of my music teachers had a Doctorate in Music. I thought it was the coolest thing. Yes at this school we had every music class you could think of, yes we had dance class instead of regular P.E. But no we didn’t break out in random song and dance during lunch. My mom was so upset when I made the stupid move of wanting to leave the school my freshman year there to follow my friend to her new school.

Another thing I love to do that I find very therapeutic as well. I go on a long drive with nothing but music in my ears and the thoughts in my head.
I could go on talking about music, but as always I’ll cut it cut it off now. That way I can write more later.
So yes I guess you could say I love music and music of different genres.
Thanks again Sandra for unintentionally giving me an idea of what to write about.
