Romantic Theme in your Bedroom

There is nothing like a candlelit room

Even if you don’t have a love in your life to share it with it’s always nice to do it for yourself. Here are my thoughts on how to achieve it.

KEEP IT CLEAN: One of the most important elements is what is not there. Clear your clutter, especially from behind the door and under the bed. People tend to throw everything in their bedroom when they have no space for it in other places of their home. Keep those laundry baskets out of the bedroom, nothing is romantic about them…

ELECTRONICS: Although we actually have a TV in ours, it’s hardly used anymore. I once read a survey that said that couples who have TV’s in the bedroom have 50% less sex then couples without one, crazy right?  Stereos for me it’s hard to say no to as I love music and the right music can add to the romance.  We have a nice Bose sound system.  They are great because they sound amazing with deep rich bass and are small and discreet.  So as much as possible, move computers, televisions, or stereos into other rooms. If you can’t or choose not to remove the electronics, be sure to put them behind the doors of an armoire or cabinet to blend them in with the decor.

LIGHTING: Should be soft, as bright lights can be distracting. Try installing a dimmer switch or if you can’t and have a few light bulbs in your lighting fixture try slightly unscrewing 2 or 3 of the bulbs so they are still there for use when needed.  For my special romantic evenings, nothing adds romance like the glow of flame less candles. We have some on each of our night stands.

BEDDING:  I would say to go with satin or silk bedding with TONS of pillows! They should be big soft and fluffy. Throw pillows are also a must with at least 3-4 various size and styled throw pillows. As far as placement of your bed, when ever possible place the bed in the center of the room but avoid placing it where your feet are directly in front of the door. Unfortunately I can’t avoid having the the foot of my bed by my door.

WALLS: If you can paint those walls, get rid of the plain white walls with a nice skin tones, pastel shades or warmer shades are also a good choice. If you can’t paint or choose not too, this is when wall decorations really come into play. Choose artwork and photographs that encourage rest and romance.

DECORATIVE ACCENTS: When choosing decorative accents even if you live alone, set a nightstand and lamp and or candles on either side of the bed to provide balance and show welcome for two.  Display a few candles on the dresser, vintage romantic novels on the shelf. Some would say decorate in pairs, however I tend to like odd numbers so usually I have 3 or 5 candles in each location.

FLOWERS:  Place them so that you get a sense of happiness and a splash of color in the bedroom. Placing a big vase of fresh flowers near the bed will put you in just the right mood for romance. This is one of the most effective ideas for romantic bedroom decor. If you can’t afford to replace your fresh flowers,  try some nice silk flowers.  While they don’t give off the fragrance that fresh flowers do, they can give almost the same appearance.  If you want some fragrance in the room try some essential oils.
