A fun way to make a lil money on the side of your normal 9-5 job, specially if you’re a social person, is to start a podcast. Just like anything else of course, it will take some serious time before you start to see any ‘real’ money from it. However if you find that you’re really good at it, you may be able to soon quit that 9-5. Just like with anything else, just never give up.
I personally have no desire at this time in my life to start a podcast so I have never looked into how to start one. All I know like with anything, is that you need to have a theme. Whether it be about entertainment, current events, etc. So I asked a friend of mine Andre, to share his experience.
How do I start a podcast? There’s not just one answer to this, there are multiple. I can only share my journey with starting my podcast. “Talk The Real Deal W/ AT2” officially released the first episode on December 19, 2018; however, my show had been in the works since 2017. I spent a lot of time depending on other people; I had no clue how to start a podcast.
Honestly, no matter how many YouTube videos you watch or articles you read, it will still not prepare you for your own podcast. Diving headfirst is the best way to start your podcast. I had no equipment to even start a podcast nor any money to buy equipment. Well how can you record without equipment?
The Anchor app came to my rescue. I had downloaded the app back in 2017 but never really used it. Anchor is a great platform for beginners. Anchor will host all of your audio, upload your podcast on multiple platforms, and allows you to edit your podcast all through your mobile device/computer.
How much money do I make from podcasting? The answer is zero dollars and twenty-two cents (Lol). You can make money from sponsorships. Some people will ask you to promote their brand or product for exchange of money or even exposure. Anchor also partners with different companies and allows you to add ads to your podcast. Usually it’s a sixty second commercial with a small script with key points to read.
Honestly, you have to love what you do. You will not make any money your first couple of years. I have a passion for podcasting. I don’t mind putting in the hard work for little results. I know that soon, it will all pay off. I’m more interested in producing the best show. If I can make a career out of this, then that would be the icing on the cake!
