The Proposal

The day I proposed to Heather

I was a bit nervous, but not about her answer. But trying to give her the experience she would want. She deserves that. At the same time stay true to myself, because I don’t think she’d want it any other way.

I wanted to do it outside somewhere because we both connect with nature so much. Particularly the ocean. A beach was on my mind but I could not access any beaches I wanted to do it at. So I was winging it.

I asked her down to the beach in front of our hotel room. By that time it was dark and others had left. It was just us. I wanted to take a picture to commemorate the event without spilling the beans. So I was a sneak and put the ring on my finger and took a bunch of selfies. Couldn’t see it that great but now that she knows its there she can.

I talked about how beautiful it all was just like her. I said “you know you’re my girl right?” she said “yes I have no doubt” I said “no doubts about anything?” she said “no doubts” I said “good I don’t have any doubts either” as I rolled over in front of her on my left knee. I liked being face to face on equal ground with her, as we are equal partners, but still give her the knowledge I am on bended knee for her. As I faced her I asked“that’s why I want to ask if you’ll share the rest of your life with me?” I remember her face looked confused and I quickly realized I hadn’t showed her the ring. So I lifted it up into her line of sight. She immediately grabbed me and hugged me tight. She was doing her nervous laugh/cry. I was glad she was ashappy as I knew she was going to be.

I was a bit worried the ring would not fit as I had to buy a size smaller. I had her try on a size 10 ring in a nearby shop the day before and it looked snug so I was worried. I remember telling her there was one problem, that I was worried it wouldn’t fit. We put it on got it over her knuckle and it seemed ok. But I’m pretty sure she would have scrapped off her skin to get it on there anyway.
