Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a condition that causes an uncontrollable urge to move your legs, usually because of an uncomfortable sensation. It typically happens in the evening or nighttime hours when you’re sitting or lying down. Moving eases the unpleasant feeling temporarily.
I woke up last night once again at about 1:30 tossing and turning with the need to move my legs. I hate it not only because I can’t sleep but I’m afraid I am going wake up my wife. Sometimes a quick walk to the bathroom and back is enough to calm them down. Other nights I feel like I need to run a Marathon. At one point in my life I would of have had no problem with taking a walk at 1am. But today, nope it’s not gonna happen, besides not so sure Terry would like that. I may just have to start walking up and down the stairs a few times or do laps around our living room / kitchen area. I will usually get RLS every night for a couple of weeks then it will go away for a little bit then eventually make its way back. The first time I remember having this was about eight years ago, at that time I didn’t know what it was. I just know I was very irritated because I couldn’t sleep and I did not like the feeling in my legs at all. Once I found out about RLS it gave me some relief because at least I knew what it was. I would say that about 99% of the time it happens when I’m already asleep and it seems to happen anywhere from 12-2 am. I did have it happen once when we were in a movie theater and that sucked bad. I fought getting up for so long until I couldn’t take it anymore. I finally got up and walked down the hall and back, it helped a lot but not fully.
I also have issues with my thyroid and have high blood pressure and I know they are related. But I also know that if I loose some weight it can help too. I have never brought it up to my doctor as I tend to forget or it’s not an active issue when I go to see him. I’ll have to make sure I mention it in my appointment next month.
Well it’s Tuesday and that means I need to go do the yard. Have a good day everyone….
