I was sitting here cleaning my glasses, trying to think of what to write about today. When I thought about my attraction to those who wears glasses. Their has to be a name for it I thought, after all their is a name for everything, such as Sapiosexual (yep that is me too). I am sure a lot of people find them selves to be both. I found a possible word for it which is Spectaphile, defined by urban dictionary as a person who is sexually attracted to people with glasses. NOT to be confused with spectrophilia, nope so not for me.
Growing up and as a adult I always wanted to secretly wear glasses. I even tried to on a few non-prescription glasses to consider buying. Well as age starts to have it’s way I now have them for about 2 years now. Before getting them I would have to to sometimes take a picture of really small text and then enlarge it on my phone to see it or run to my wife. When I went to my appointment I found out that apparently I needed a slight correction for seeing further away. My wife wears glasses too, good thing for both of us isn’t it? With her being near sighted, and I far sighted so we are good for each other if we ever lose our glasses.
So why do people find them selves attracted to those who wear glasses? I’m guessing it’s subconscious thinking where they must be more intelligent,
I found this useless bit of information today which may be the reasoning for the attraction although some of them seem far-fetched.
Six cues glasses provide to others according to Psychology Today:
- Honesty: Glasses can make you look more honest.
- Trustworthiness: You may look more trustworthy if you’re wearing glasses with rims.
- Intelligence: People with glasses look like they read more; hence, they are more intelligent.
- Social class: Wearing glasses is somehow associated with a higher social class.
- Threat: Glasses take away your apparent threat level, especially if you’re a man.
- Personality: Wearing glasses with logos means you’re fashion conscious, and anxiously so if those logos are there to impress.
Do you find yourself attracted to someone who wears glasses, can you go either way, or is it a complete turn off for you?
Have you ever worn non-prescription glasses for fashion?
